Ruth Alkire, age 75, of Avon Park, FL, passed away on June 24, 2009.
She was born in Escanaba, MI, raised in Hammond, IN and raised her family in Lowell, IN.
Ruth was a graduate of Purdue University and earned a Masters Degree in Education. She was a highly respected science teacher at Lowell Middle School for 25 years.
Ruth was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Married to her husband, Don Alkire, for 56 years, she was preceded in death by him and son, John.
Survivors include children: Don Alkire of Martinsville, IN, Cheryl Cater of Carmel, IN, Tom Alkire of Portage, MI and Daryl Alkire of Kalamazoo, MI; grandchildren include: Lynn Winland, Laura Foster, Shannon Kenney, Joshua Kenney and Tyler Alkire; and five great- grandchildren also survive.
A Memorial Service for Don and Ruth Alkire will be held on Wednesday, July 8 at 10:00 a.m. at Sheets Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 604 E. Commercial Ave., Lowell, IN with Father Ted Norquist officiating and burial of cremated remains immediately following at Lowell Memorial Cemetery in Lowell. Friends are invited to call on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
