Porter resident Walter C. Alberti, Jr., 89, died Wednesday, March 5, 2014, in Mishawaka, Ind.

He was born Oct. 12, 1924, in Newkirk, Okla., to Walter, Sr., and Leota (Miller) Alberti, who preceded him in death.

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Angela.

He is survived by his step-daughter, Rosemarie (Eugene) Bodnar of Porter; step-son, Julius F. (Susie) Schulz of Brush Prairie, Wash.,; step-grandchildren, Mark Bodnar, Laura (Michael) Bruccoleri, Amy (Robert) Vrahoretis, Matthew Bodnar, Janet Morrison, Kim Gustafson, Therese Dunigan, Angela Schulz, Walter Schulz; and eight step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon; a brother, George; and a sister, Mildred Ann.

Walter was a 22-year-veteran of the U.S. Army and worked as a truck driver for Inland Steel for 23 years. Per Walter's wishes, there will be no services. Cremation will take place at Heritage Crematory in Portage, with arrangements by Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway in Chesterton.
