Howard M. "Buck" Bonnell, 86, Star City, died at 1:44 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at IU Health White Memorial Hospital, Monticello.

Born Aug. 1, 1925, in Star City, he was the son of Milo and Muriel Grace Penny Bonnell. Howard married Bettye L. Mackey on Aug. 29, 1945, at Ninth Street Christian Church in Logansport. Bettye died Feb. 22, 2010.

Buck was a retired farmer. He had also worked at the Pond View Golf Course. He loved to play golf and took his family on many gatherings, vacations and camping trips.

He was an avid sports fan. He especially enjoyed the Boilermakers and the Chicago Cubs. Buck was a competitive euchre player.

He served in the U.S. Navy Air Corps during World War II.

Throughout his life, Buck was active in his community. He was a member of the Star City Lions Club and Star City United Methodist Church. He served as Van Buren Township trustee and was a former school bus driver.

Buck was a wonderful role model and mentor. He was always eager to spend time with his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include children, Milo H. (Judy) Bonnell, Star City, Renelle Diane (Tom) McQuiston, San Clemente, Calif., Mark O. (Michelle) Bonnell, Royal Center, and Denise L. Marmolijo, Monticello; grandchildren, Derek H. (Shanna) Bonnell, Lisa N. (Doug) Malchow, Kallie Bonnell, Brandon Marmolijo, Matthew Marmolijo, Jared Marmolijo, Natalie Marmolijo, and Alyssa Marmolijo; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Alice Montgomery, Logansport; and brothers, Argel "Spud" Bonnell, Chandler, Ariz., and Wayne Bonnell, Star City.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bettye L. Mackey; parents; son-in-law, Cris Marmolijo; sisters, Bonnie G. Hiatt, Dorothy Bonnell, Margaret Bechdol and Mildred B. Roth; and brother, Owen Bonnell.

Services entrusted to Frain Mortuary, Winamac.
