Anna came to America at the age of 23 on the S.S. Oceanic, as an indentured servant to work on her uncle's farm in Cokato, MN. A woman in the church felt sorry for her and helped to pay off the ship's passage so Anna would be free of the farm labor.
She then took a position as a cook for a wealthy family in Duluth. She left that job and came to St Paul.
She married Nels Alberg July of 1911 in St. Paul, Ramsey Co., MN
They had 4 children: George Oliver, Nels Oliver (died young; twin of George), Eval Walfred, & Howard Gilbert.
She was naturalized along with her husband Jan. 2, 1917
She was a member of the Salvation Army.
The night that Nils died he told her "We have done it good together" Later that night he died in her arms. She would tell that story over and over.
In her 70's she made a trip back to Sweden. Her parents were gone, but she did see a sibling or two. She stated that it was the best thing she ever did. She would have stayed there if her sons weren't in the USA.
She made a great cup of egg coffee, and wonderful meatballs!
