Whiskey Kills Boy
Son of Troy Farmer Drinks and Dies in a Few Hours

A seven year old son of William Hardies, living on the old Hinne man farm in Troy township is dead as the result of taking a drink of whiskey from a jug of the liquor belonging to a member of a thrashing crew.
The boy took the fateful draught sometime during the day yesterday, but lingered until this morning before breathing his last. He was attended by Dr.E.M.Carr, of this city, who worked over him for hours but without avail.
The jug from which the boy secured the deadly drink was the pro perty of J.T.Wilson, of Chicago, engineer in the thrashing crew managed by Herman Peterson. The jug had been hidden away in the barn, where the boy evidently found it whil·e at play.

Richard F.Hardies con't.

Lest there should be a suspicion that the liquor was drugged Mr. Wilson came to Pipestone this morning and surrendered himself to Sheriff Shepherd. He states that there could not have been any thing in the jug but pure whiskey, as he had been drinking from it, and there were no evil effects.
The boy had not a very robust constitution, and could not with
stand the natural effects of the strong liquor. The childs un timely death is a deep blow to the parents.
