Kenneth "Ken" Leo Aldrich was born to Clifford and Agnes Aldrich on May 11, 1927, in Elk River, MN. He was raised and attended school in Wadena. After graduation he served in the Army Air Force during the final years of World War II and was discharged in November of 1946 with the rank of Corporal.
Ken married Madonna "Donna" Lorraine Johnson of Wadena, on October 11, 1948. Ken will be remembered in the community as the owner of the Wadena Cafe, Aldrich Insurance Agency and South Side Grocery. Ken and Donna made their home in Wadena and in retirement spent many of the winter months in Mesa, AZ. Ken was a charter member of the Wadena Elks Lodge #2386, a member of the American Legion, Wadena Rotary Club, the Holiday Rambler RV Club and a founding member of the Ajax Coffee Club of Wadena.
During his retirement years Ken stayed active. He became a successful organic farmer planting acres of vegetables on his boyhood farm just outside Wadena. His grandchildren have fond memories of picking pumpkins from his large pumpkin patch. Ken also helped establish the Wadena Farmers Market and quickly gained a reputation for the quality and tastiness of his produce. He extensively researched his family's genealogy necessitating several trips to Sweden where he traced his roots back to the 1700's.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents Clifford and Agnes; brother Richard; and sister Dorothy Taggart.
He is survived by his wife Donna of Alexandria; daughter Barbara (Michael) Engelmann of Scottsdale, AZ; son Michael of Wadena; daughters Debra (William) Goedtel of Rochester; Mary (Bruce) Evjen of Alexandria; 11 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; along with a host of friends.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Wadena, MN.
