Janet Elaine (Mengis) Aldridge, 63, of West 3rd St, died early Tuesday morning, June 22, 2004, in her home, with her family by her side.

She was born in Walker, Minn., on March 2, 1941, to Laurence and Thelma Mengis.

She defined the word love, as anyone who came into the briefest contact with her would attest. She grew up in the small town of Walker, but eventually moved to Duluth to raise her children. She willingly gave up career to become a mom, which was instinctively the role she knew God had intended all along. In order to provide for her children, she worked several part time jobs, ranging from Avon sales to healthcare provider.

While raising her own children, she left imprints on the lives of many other children, both friends and neighborhood families; she was always bringing treats to school events, directed the Christmas pageant at Our Saviors' Lutheran, only later to become the Youth Director for the church for a couple of years, was very active in the West Duluth Memorial Community Center, helping to raise funds as well as fun for the kids in her local community. To sum it up, she was the ''Kool-Aid Mom'' oh, yeah!

While working as the office administrator for Faith Haven, she met the Love of her life, Harold, and literally lived happily ever after. In the years that followed her kids moving out of the house, she was hired on, and worked her way into the role of the Director of Human Resources for the Duluth Bethel Society, a role she was very proud to hold. Naturally, she was just as instinctively a grandmother, and left a legacy of love on yet another generation. She would greet you with a hug, and say the nicest things to immediately make you feel welcome in her home, and in her life. She was always there with an ear, to listen to your problems, and never burden you with her own. Janet was a child of God in the purest sense, and will live on forever in the hearts and memories of all those she so lovingly touched.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Bennet Aldridge; her father and mother, Laurence and Thelma; and her sister, Melba (Jewell) Rossley.

She is survived by her sister, Myrna (Bob) Postal, and brother, Larry (Meri) Mengis; children; Jim Willeck, Jeff (Jennifer) Willeck, Juli Willeck; grandchildren; Ashley, Logan, and Joseph, and Harold's children; Nancy Shannon, Tim Aldridge, Patricia Newton, Matthew Aldridge and Barry Aldridge.

Inurnment was at Oneota Cemetery in Duluth
