ELKO, Nev. — Napa native Thomas M. Caldwell, 73, died Wednesday. Mr. Caldwell was born on Sept. 3, 1914 and graduated from Napa Union High School.

Mr. Caldwell owned a road construction and paving company before retiring in the 1970s. He had worked at Basalt Rock Co. from 1936 to 1947 and before that was been a carpenter’s apprentice at E. W. Doughty Co.

Since retiring, Mr. Caldwell had been mining for gold and silver in Nevada. He owned a home Tuscarora, Nev.

Mr. Caldwell was a member of the Napa Elks Lodge, Napa parlor of the Native Sons of the Golden West and the Richmond Hunting Club.

In addition to his wife, Rose Muhvich Caldwell, Mr. Caldwell is survived by three sons, R. David of Truckee, Wayne in Colorado and Thomas of Napa; a sister, Jeannette Bristow of Vallejo; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Caldwell’s son, Thomas, will officiate at services at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Treadway and Wigger Funeral Chapel, 623 Coombs St., Napa. Burial will be in Redwood Cemetery. Visitation is from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday.

The family suggests contributions to the Salvation Army, 590 Franklin St., Napa, CA 94559.
