Arlan N. Bakke, 74, Staples, died Wednesday, June 9, 2010, at Lakewood Health System in Staples.
Funeral services are at 1 p.m. Friday, June 18, at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Motley Public Cemetery.
Arlan Bakke was born on Sept. 8, 1935, to Selmer and Mabel (Carlson) Bakke in Luverne. He graduated from high school in Edgerton. He worked for A.R. Wood Manufacturing in Luverne. He then worked as an electrician for more than 50 years and retired from Brakke Electric in 2009.
He was a member of the Lions Club in Motley, a member of the Minnesota Inventors Congress and a recipient of the Inventors Congress Star Award. He was the founder, volunteer fireman and fire chief of the Scandia Valley Township Fire Department. Fishing was his favorite pastime.
Mr. Bakke is survived by four children, Kim Bakke, Luverne, Todd (Sheryl) Bakke, Crystal, Dave Bakke, Norwalk, Calif., and Lynn Bakke, Luverne; six stepchildren, Dan (Dawn Keck) Caron, Circle Pines, Roxanne (Gordy) Gorton, White Bear Lake, Ginger (Terry) Reitberger, Aurora, Colo., Randy (Deb Vorwerk) Caron, Motley, Denise Baxter, Fort Myers, Fla., and Terry Baxter, Oklee; a sister, Arlene Johnson, Pearland, Texas; special friend Florence Grunwald, Motley; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 22 years, Donna Bakke; and a brother, Duane Bakke.
Brenny Funeral Chapel of Staples is in charge of arrangements.
