Jerry Duane Juntunen, 59, of Menahga, Minnesota, died peacefully at his home on Friday, January 12, 2007, surrounded by his family.
Jerry was born on July 2, 1947, in Wadena, Minnesota, to James and Violet (Dormanen) Juntunen. He grew up in Shell River Township. He attended Sunnyview School District #43 and graduated from Menahga Public School in 1965. He was united in marriage to Connie Salo on December 16, 1972, in Menahga. This union was blessed with three children, Terrence Lee, Timothy Duane, and Tamatha Jo.
Jerry worked for over 27 years in the sewer and water construction trade in Minneapolis and northern Minnesota, for Northern Sewer and Water, Nodland Construction, Berghorst Plumbing and Heating, Sellin Brothers, Inc. and United Water and Sewer, before starting his own business, Juntunen Excavating in 1996. He also graded roads in Shell River Township, owned Connie's Food Market Etc. and Laundromat, farmed and raised beef cattle. He was a member of the 49'rs and General Labor Unions, and First English Lutheran Church.
Jerry looked forward to deer hunting in Minnesota and antelope and mule deer hunting in Montana with his children, family and friends. Jerry enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren (whom he loved to spoil), watching Gunsmoke and classic westerns on TV, country music, four-wheeling with the grandchildren, playing cards with the morning guys at Pete's Conoco, and having coffee with the Co-op boys.
He is survived by his wife, Connie of Menahga; two sons, Terrance (Angel) and Timothy (Kristine) of Menahga; one daughter, Tamatha (Daniel) Gilster of Sebeka; four grandchildren, Ashton, Anthony, Keaton and Samantha; his parents, James and Violet Juntunen of Menahga; two brothers, Donald (Sue) and Bruce (Lyn) of Menahga; three sisters, Karen (Marlin) Knutson of Lemmon, South Dakota, Diane (Robert) Wilshausen of Blaine, Minnesota, and Janice (Terry) Rautio of Fort Worth, Texas; nieces, nephews, uncles and aunts; one niece, Jessica Rautio; and one nephew, Christopher Butzin.
His funeral service was held on Wednesday, January 17, at First English Lutheran Church in Menahga with Pasor Steven A. Bruer and Pastor Clyde Allebach officiating.
Pallbearers were Tommy Salo, Watson (Pooch) Johnson, Jonathon Juntunen, Joshua Juntunen, Tobias Juntunen, and Jeremiah Knutson. Honorary pallbeares were all his brothers and sisters. Interment was at Jim Cook Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to Wevley Funeral Home of Sebeka, Minnesota.
