Alyce was born September 24, 2909 in Dresden, ND to the late John and Augusta (Filbrandt) Rueger. Alyce graduated from North Dakota State Teaching College with a professional second grade teaching certificate for life on December 21, 1936. Alyce taught in one of the North Dakota schools and also for the Grey Eagle School District. When she was teaching in North Dakota, she met and married Edmund Messerich. The couple moved to the Burtrum/Grey Eagle area. To this marriage two sons were born. Edmund Messerich died suddenly of a heart attack in 1943. On January 17, 1946, Alyce was united in marriage to Donald Bacon. After their retirement, Alyce and Donald enjoyed many winters in McAllen Texas. The couple were year round residents in Texas from 1990 until Donald passed away on October 24, 1997. Alyce then moved back to Grey Eagle, MN and resided at the Grey Eagle Village View Apartments.
She enjoyed teaching and visiting with family and friends. She loved to sew, any kind of needle work and crafting. Alyce also enjoyed flowers and gardening. She always had a large garden when her family was young and that hobby continued through the years while living at Village View Apartments. For many years, Alyce worked at the Burtrum Bean Bake cooking noodles. She was also a leader in the Burtrum Booster 4-H Club and a member of the Homemaker’s Club.
Alyce was preceded in death by her husbands, Edmund Messerich and Donald Bacon; parents, John and Augusta Rueger; three sisters and a brother.
