Everett Anderson, age 89 of Osakis went to meet his Savior on Tuesday morning, April 30, 2013 from his home in Osakis, MN.

On March 9, 1924 a baby boy was born to Oliver and Ursula (Fraser) Anderson on their farm home in Todd County four miles east of Osakis. He was raised on this farm and attended Dist. 68 Country School for seven years. His family moved to Osakis and then Everett went to Osakis Public School. For a time he went to work for his father hauling cattle. This was during World War II and the other cattle drivers had been drafted to help in the war, so at the young age of sixteen, Everett was hauling cattle in a semi trailer by himself to the stockyards in South St. Paul. When his father sold his cattle trucks, Everett moved to South St. Paul to work. On February 27, 1943 Everett married his sweetheart, Shirley E. Magnuson. They lived in St. Paul until May of 1944 when Everett joined in the defense of his country and served as a member of the United States Marines. He was sent to the South Pacific where he worked refueling fighter planes and bombers. He reached the rank of Sergeant and moved from island to island sometimes working 24 hours straight fueling planes when the atomic bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki which ended the war. He returned home and went to work for Milquist Oil Co. delivering fuel to the houses in town and to the farmers around Osakis. About a year later, Milquist sold his business and then Everett went to work for seventeen years for an area supply company. Next he went into business for himself running Anderson Tractor Repair for over 40 years. He retired at the age of 80 because of an injury from a car accident. He damaged his right shoulder and could no long lift his arm to work.
Through the years, Everett and Shirley were blessed with five children.
Everett was a member of the Osakis Lutheran Church and was active in the Men's Club and as a council member. He also was a lifelong member of the Osakis VFW Post # 7902.
Some of his hobbies included doing bicycle repairs and sales, playing cards, traveling and taking in a game of cards or going to play bingo.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Shirley Anderson of Osakis; children, Barbara (Russell) Aaberg of New Lenox, IL, Linda (Gerry) Sibell of Hibbing, Alan Anderson of Osakis, Lori (Kevin) Toenyan of Baxter; 12 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; siblings, Luella (William) Wilson of Boca Raton, FL, Doris Harth of Osakis, Gary (Lois) Anderson of Lonsdale and Verla Peterson of Pequot Lakes, MN; many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a son, Dennis Anderson; two great granddaughters, Shayla Juntunen and Joely Thompson and a brother, Harold Anderson.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at 2:00 pm at the Osakis Lutheran Church with Rev. Ron Calvert officiating. Organist is Pat Converse. Inurnment follows at the East Evergreen Cemetery in Osakis with full military honors provided by the Osakis VFW Honor Guard. Honorary bearers are his 12 grandchildren, Dawn Juntunen, Christopher Sibell, Derek Anderson, Darrin Hensley, Kelly Beerheide, Krystal Schoniger, Scott Henrikson, Kari Kraemer, Christa Thompson, Mickey Sibell, Sarah Anderson and Shayla Toenyan.
