Roger V. Anderson, 79, died December 19, 2016 at Traditions II in Owatonna, MN.
He was born May 2, 1937, in Hartington, NE to Clarence and Althea Anderson. The family moved to the farm in Wausa, NE where he attended school and graduated from Wausa High School in 1955. Roger attended the University of South Dakota in Vermillion in the R.O.T.C. program and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1959.
His first job was in the art department at the Vernon Company in Newton, Iowa. It was there that he met his wife, Karen Abel. They were married at First Lutheran Church April 14, 1962, in Newton. During this time he did his active duty in the National Guard. In November, 1962, he started his art career as a ring designer with Jostens. He worked 39 years at Jostens with 12 of those years in the Attleboro, MA plant as a field artist. Art was a lifelong passion for Roger with water color as his preferred medium. For his own enjoyment he did many paintings but favorites were of people, farm scenes, and animals. After retirement, he worked part time as custodian at Our Savior's Lutheran Church.
Roger was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and sang in the choir for many years. Before declining health, he enjoyed playing softball, shooting pool, table tennis and bowling, but his favorite activity was the twice a week tennis game.
He is survived by his wife, of 54 years, Karen; sisters, Nancy Anderson, Des Moines, IA, Linda (Rolland) Moody, Springfield, NE; and one brother, Rowlan (Connie), Wausa, NE; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service will be 12:00 noon Thursday, December 22, 2016, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church with a one hour visitation prior to the funeral service at the church.
Interment at Dania Cemetery.
Memorials are preferred to Our Savior's Lutheran Church or Dania Cemetery.
