Walter E. Aldinger, 94, of Fairbanks/Brimson, died Saturday December 27, 2014 at the Minnesota Veteran's Home in Silver Bay.
He was born February 2, 1920 to John and Eva (Wittmeier) Aldinger in Herreid, South Dakota, where he grew up and attended school through the 8th grade. Walter moved to Ingram, Wisconsin and farmed until he joined the Army to serve during World War II. Walter moved to Minnesota and helped build the Erie Tracks working for Hunkin, Arundel, and Dixon Construction, and he later retired from Erie Mining Company. He owned and operated the Kozy Korner Inn in Fairbanks, Minnesota, and enjoyed tending the bar and visiting with his friends and patrons. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, VFW, and the American Legion and enjoyed the last ten years of his life at the Veteran's Home and playing Bingo.
Walter is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two sisters, two grandchildren, and a son-in-law, Richard Hellman.
He is survived by his children, Albert (Nancy) of Lancaster, Texas, Kenneth (Yadira) of Brimson and Costa Rica, Mark (Julie) of Schroeder, Barbara (Randy) Merritt of Schroeder, and Sharon Hellman of Two Harbors; a brother, Leon of Silver Bay; 10 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 10 AM until the 11 AM service on Friday January 2, 2015 at Cavallin Funeral Home in Two Harbors. Burial will be in Brimson Cemetery at a later date.
