William had three siblings: Edna Marguerite (1910-1979), Reba Marie (1918-2006), and Betty Jane (1921-2006).
On 21 July 1946, at the Wedding Manor in Los Angeles, California, Bill married Dorothy Rose Barta, the daughter of John and Rose Faiman Barta. In 1953 and 1954, they lived in Burbank, Los Angeles County, California.
Because of Bill’s line of work, he and Dorothy traveled a lot; and, moved a lot. In 1956, they purchased the El Rancho Resort of Trout Lake, in Balsam Township, Itasca County, Minnesota. Their motto was “Use It Up, Wear It Out, Make It Do.” Bill and Dorothy and owned and managed the resort until 1974, when they sold all but ten acres, on which they built a home. In 2001, Bill and Dorothy moved to Bovey, which was another town in Itasca County.
William Henry “Bill” Barkhoff died at the age of 77, on Thursday, 24 January 2002, in Bovey, Itasca County, Minnesota. At the time of his death, he was surrounded by his loving family.
Bill was survived by his wife of 55 years, Dorothy of Bovey; and sisters, Betty Tiby of Woodbine, Iowa, and Reba Germer of Council Bluffs, Iowa.
In keeping with Bill’s wishes, there were no public services. He was buried in Balsam Cemetery in Itasca County, Minnesota.
