Donna Darlene Waid was born July 17, 1935, in Bloomington, IL, to Lionel and Beulah (McCubbin) Waid. When she was 2 years old they moved to Detroit, MI, where she graduated from high school. After graduating she worked as a secretary for Ford Motor Company in Detroit. In 1961 she moved out to the West Coast and she did secretarial work in California for 2 years. Donna met Clifford Alder in June 1963 in Rollag, MN, and they were married four months later on October 8th. They made their home in Rollag until 1975 when they moved to Audubon where they would raise their twin sons and farm together for the next 41 years. While mostly a fulltime mother and homemaker, Donna helped out on the farm and also worked for over 20 years at Audubon Meats.
Donna was very active in her church circles at both Rollag Lutheran Church and First Lutheran Church of Audubon. She was a member of TOPS, taught Sunday school for 50 years and was active in Western Minnesota Steam Thresher's Reunion. Every year, with Clifford behind the wheel and Donna navigating beside him, they enjoyed driving to Michigan in the 1980's and to Georgia in later years to visit family and friends, spending about a month at a time on their travels.
Donna is survived by her husband, Clifford; her two sons, David (Jean) Alder and Daniel Alder, both of Audubon; daughter-in-law, Vicki Alder; her brother, Herbert (Geraldine) Waid, of Moutrie, GA; 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Stanley Waid.
