Obituary from the Fairbanks, Alaska "Daily News-Miner" newspaper, dated Sunday, February 21, 2010, page C-2:

A longtime Fairbanks resident, Tommy M. Brown, passed away Feb. 18, 2010, surrounded by close family.

Tommy was born Jan. 24, 1938, in Galena, Kan., to Ethel Reber and Eugene Brown. He joined the Army in 1955 and was stationed at Ladd Army Airfield in Fairbanks as a specialist, third class, during the Korean War.

While in Fairbanks, Tommy met his wife of 51 years, Paricia Roberts, on a blind date, and they were married April 1, 1957.

He joined the Plumbers and Steamfitters Union Local 375 in 1962, and he remained a member until his retirement in 1999. While in the local, Tommy served on numerous boards, but he was proudest of the 25 years he spent as a representative on the Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee. He mentored many fine young men.

During his wonderful life in Fairbanks, he spent many years as a scoutmaster for Troop 1 and found great joy in watching his scouts become adult members of the Fairbanks community. Tommy did not realize how many lives he affected by being so caring and helpful to so many.

Tommy had a great sense of humor and loved practical jokes. He loved to fish, hunt and be outdoors with family and friends. He and family and friends rafted the Nenana River race for many years. He loved the state of Alaska and never failed to tell anyone who would listen that he was an Alaskan and proud of it.

Tommy is survived by his wife, Patricia, and their three children: Gene, Dalanda and Delilah; 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at Bible Baptist Church, 32 Adak Street, at 2 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 22. Services will be officiated by Assistant Pastor Leon Groff.

The family heartfully thanks the Bible Baptist Church for their generosity and compassion.
