John Louis Alexander, Sr., of Taneytown, departed this life peacefully June 9, 2009, in Westminster.

Born in Frederick, he was the son of the late Franklin P. and Marion (Wilhide) Alexander.

Mr. Alexander was employed by Shipley Transfer for many years and later owned and operated Key Ladder Company of Keysville.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Taneytown, a life member of the Taneytown Fire Company and the Loyal Order of The Moose, and was a former President of the North Carroll Gun Club.

Mr. Alexander was the loving husband of Dorothy L. (Sipes) Alexander, his wife of 59 years, and surviving, in addition to her, are two sons, Jack L. Alexander and wife, Joan of Ocean Pines, MD, and John L. Alexander, Jr. and wife, Marylee of Littlestown, PA; three grandchildren, Lauren Pennington, and Brandon and Daniel Alexander; and one great-grandson; a sister, Alice Unger of Taneytown; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Wilbur Alexander.

A Taneytown Fire Company Memorial Service was conducted by Chaplain Charles E. Barnhart, Jr. with interment in Keysville Union Cemetery.
