Born Feb. 10, 1915, in Clear Spring, she was the daughter of the late John Feidt Beard and Lucy May Frush Beard.
She was a member of the graduating class of 1932 from Clear Spring High School. She received her bachelor's associate's degree from Towson State Teachers College and her master's degree in elementary education from the University of Maryland.
She was employed by the Washington County Board of Education for 38 years as an elementary school teacher. She taught elementary education at Shanktown, Broadway and Clear Spring elementary schools.
She was a faithful lifetime member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Clear Spring.
She served in the Women's Army Corps Service during World War II. She was a lifetime member of the Washington County Teacher's Association. After her retirement, she served as a volunteer for the auxiliary of the Washington County Hospital Association and also at Ravenwood Retirement Home.
She was a world traveler, enjoying the cultures, music and history of many various countries. She also enjoyed her time with family and friends at the Calypso in Ocean City, Md.
She is survived by a loving nephew, Jerry A. Beard, and his wife, Saundra Beard; one great-nephew, Dr. Allen M. Beard and family of Baton Rouge, La.; two great-nieces, Audrey M. Morton and family of Ellicott City, Md., and Stephanie M. Mankoski and family of Chambersburg, Pa.; three great-great-nieces; and a special cousin, Mary J. Hull of Clear Spring.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Martha L. Beard, in 1999.
