Robert August Anstatt, age 53, of Trappe, MD passed away at Easton Memorial Hospital on November 30, 2014 following a brief, and hard fought battle with cancer. In death “Bob” was surrounded by Michele Muldoon Anstatt, his wife, and his daughters Grace Anstatt Lyons, and Lauren Ashley Anstatt.
Bob graduated Williamstown High School in Williamstown, NJ in June of 1979. Bob had an intense passion for aviation which followed him his entire life. Bob’s career took him from Atlantic City, NJ to Easton, MD as an insurance adjuster with Prudential Insurance Co where he worked for 17 years. All the while Bob continued building his flight hours, as a commercial pilot, to ultimately pursue a full time career in aviation.
The transition to aviation wasn’t difficult for Bob; in 1999 he and his wife Michele formed a flying school, Easton Aviation at Newnam Field, in Easton, MD. They grew the company by hiring flight instructors, leasing additional planes, and sharing their passion for flying with others. Scores of students earned their flight certificates at Easton Aviation. Bob’s work ethic was well known and second only to his professionalism. Many a stranded passenger(s) and pilot(s) finding themselves in Easton late in the day could count on a ride into town from Bob, or even the use of his personal vehicle.
In 2003, he and Michele earned a commercial charter certificate from the FAA allowing them to offer air charter services. In 2005 they further added to their responsibilities by the acquisition of Maryland Air, an airplane refueling operation in Easton, MD. In total Bob accumulated nearly 7,000 hours in single and multi-engine aircraft, last flying a Pilatus PC 12 NG. Bob and Michele were inseparable, regularly flying together as pilot and co-pilot. Bob particularly enjoyed their vacations in Florida.
The eldest child of Robert C. Anstatt and Barbara Farr Anstatt, Bob was born on April 10, 1961. He is survived by his father Robert Anstatt, his mother Barbara Anstatt, passed on November 30 1998. Bob’s siblings include bothers Peter Anstatt of Easton, PA, Daniel Anstatt (Karen) of Vincent, OH, August Anstatt (Lesley) of Virginia Beach, VA, and sisters Jennifer Remmes (Dominick) of Galesburg, IL, Bonnie Martinez, Marietta, OH, and twin sisters Ann Goodman, Powell, OH and Emma Wilson (Scott) of Dayton, OH.
His uncles and aunts, include Joe (Donna) Anstatt, Pennington, NJ and William (Betsy) Farr of North Wildwood, NJ. Bob maintained a very special place in his heart for his Aunt Deen, Augustine Conklin (Paul), of Sewell, NJ. Grandchildren include Madelyn and Evan Baer of Centerville, MD and Brayden Baer of Mt Airy, MD.
Special thank you to the doctors, nurses, and caregivers at the Easton Memorial Hospital.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Trappe, MD, at 10am. Burial will follow at Oxford Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to, Palliative Care Suite Fund, Easton Memorial Hospital, 219 S. Washington Street, Easton, MD 21601.
