Born on January 24, 1938 in Marshall, Texas, he was the son of Bennye F. Hammock Almond of Marshall, TX and the late Elmer Henderson Almond. He was also preceded in death by a son, Rodney Lee Almond, who died in 2002. A veteran of the United States Army and National Guard of Texas, he served his country during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Taking his experience from the armed forces, he spent his career in database administration, retiring from Lockheed Martin and later serving as a consultant for US Foods. He was a member of South End Baptist Church in Frederick, MD. His life was spent focusing on his family and his work, and he was great at both of them.
In addition to his wife of 54 years and his mother, he is survived by four daughters, Marisa Ann Burke and her husband, Daniel, of Annapolis, MD, Shauna Lyn Almond of Minneapolis, MN, Kambra Kim Minor of Walkersville, MD, and Janina Amy Rice and her husband, Matthew, of Knoxville, MD; ten grandchildren, Daniel L. and Mitchell S. Burke, Bethany M. and Nicolas C. Uchytil, Chelsea L. and Ashley E. Minor and Allyson A., Allysa C., Hunter C. and Nash H. Rice; two great-grandchildren, Ben L. and Gracie A. Brakebill; a brother, William Bryan Almond, Sr. of Marshall, TX and two nephews, William Bryan Almond, Jr. of Marshall, TX and Derek Duane Almond of Dallas, TX.
The funeral will be held at 2 pm Thursday, August 30, 2012 at South End Baptist Church with Pastor Ken Stalls officiating. Burial will be held privately in Germantown Bethel Cemetery, Cascade, MD with military graveside rites.
