TILGHMAN H. "TILL" ALEXANDER, 68, Waynesboro, Pa., RFD 4, died Saturday at Newton D. Baker Veterans Hospital, Martinsburg. W. Va.
He had been in failing health for a number of years. In November of last year he had undergone surgery and several months following his discharge from the hospital, he suffered a stroke.
He was admitted to the hospital for the last time April 5.
Mr. Alexander was born at Middletown, November 12, 1893, a son of the late Timothy and Helen (Norris) Alexander. As a young man he had lived in the Sabillasville area and after his marriage to Esta M. McClain in 1919, he made his home in Sabillasville and Charmian.
He served in Europe with the Army in World War I and after his discharge worked for a number of years for the Funkhouser Company.
Mr. Alexander was a member of the Hawley Memorial Church, Charmian; American Legion, Cascade, and the Blue Ridge Sportsmen's Association.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Erma A. Shockey, Highfield, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two sisters, Mrs. Blanche Benchoff, Blue Ridge Summit, and Mrs. David Fleagle, Florida; two brothers, Luther Alexander, Charmian and Lee Alexander, Tremont City, 0.
The funeral will be held today at 2 pm from the Hawley Memorial Presbyterian Church, Charmian, in charge of Rev. Bruce McDonald. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery.
