James "Jimmy" Lester Dodd, longtime Hanford resident & former Kings County Ag Inspector, passed away on December first, after a long journey of failing health.

Born on February 11, 1949 in Tampa, Florida, Jimmy was the second of four children born to Kenneth & Digna Dodd. Spending his early childhood in Winchester Bay, Oregon, Jimmy quickly became known by his siblings as having an unstoppable inventive mind, an eccentric sharp wit, and a charming desire to make people laugh.

A graduate of Fresno State University, Jimmy served as a fireman on campus while completing his degree. Jim worked for the County of Kings in several departments, most notably as an Inspector with the Department of Agriculture, or as Jimmy would put it as a "member of law enforcement."

Jimmy's incredible ability to work with numbers, facts, & figures led to many endeavors, hobbies, & interests. If you ever wanted to know where to get the best deal on anything, anywhere in the world, Jim was the one to ask. His study of classic casino games, such as Blackjack, Craps, and Bacharach, transcended gambling and entered the world of precision statistics and science. Later in life, he was truly happy spending his days with patrons of the Tachi Palace Casino.

Jimmy was a kind & gentle soul: focused, creative, intelligent. A man of simple pleasures; he loved his family & friends, but cherished his standard poodles.

For the past year he lived with his sister, Carmen and her family in Hanford, where they had the pleasure of loving and caring for Jim. It was a blessing that brought Jim contentment. He was loved by his family, will never be forgotten, and will be missed.

Jim is survived by his sisters Carmen Bettencourt & Joyce Dodd, his brother Kenneth Dodd, niece Aubrey Bettencourt, nephews Alden Bettencourt & Lucas Dodd, brothers-in-law Larry Bettencourt & Peter Gombrich, sister-in-law Talene Dodd, and his best friend Helen Prince.

Visitation will be at Phipps Dale Funeral Chapel in Lemoore on Wednesday, Dec. 4th from 4 to 7 pm. Graveside services will be held at 1 pm, Thursday, December 5th at Kings River Cemetery, 10499 Dover Ave. Hanford, CA. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of James Dodd can be given to the Kings County SPCA.
