Kaye Johnson Aubrey returned to her heavenly home on the evening of July 18th at the Lakeview Hospital in Bountiful,` Utah . She passed away surrounded by family after extended illness and pneumonia complications. Kaye was born the first of three daughters to Whitney Owen Johnson and Donna Jane Lott Johnson of Blackfoot, Idaho, and was a life- long resident of Groveland.
A graduate of Blackfoot High School, Kaye was her senior class secretary and is missing her 50 year class reunion this weekend for a better reunion. She enjoyed sports (e.g., softball, volleyball, basketball, bowling) during her teen years. She attended Rick's College one semester before marrying her high school sweetheart, John Robert (Bob) Aubrey, in the Idaho Falls LDS temple on February 14, 1964. They have been married 49 years for what Bob calls "quite a ride". Kaye and Bob were blessed with three sons (Rob, Garren and Steve) and a daughter (Shelley), and these four were the center of her life. Once the children hit their teens, Kaye began working with her father at the INEL snack shop in Idaho Falls for about ten years.
Kaye was also involved in many community activities during her adult years. She was active in Blackfoot Little League and the local PTA and acted as president for both. She was a member of Toast Mistresses, Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, and a frequent debate judge. She saw a need for and initiated an Al-Anon group for the Blackfoot area. With a tender heart for strays and outcasts, Kaye often provided a home and love for many struggling teenagers and a few spoiled cats. A mystery lover and news junky, Kaye loved nothing more than an Agatha Christie or a debate about the latest national news and politics. Kaye was a deeply spiritual woman and often talked of her faith and relationship with her "Elder Brother" and "Father". She was also passionate about family history and genealogy; she loved the personal stories of ancestors and frequently tried to recruit family members into sharing her enthusiasm for genealogy. Although she served in several capacities in the LDS church, it was always just a means for being His hands and reaching out to those in need.
During the last two decades of her life, medical problems and deteriorating eye sight severely limited Kaye's mobility. She continued to reach out and bless the lives of others with many thinking-of-you phone calls, notes and letters. Her insight, inspiration, sense of humor and stubbornness will be sorely missed by many.
Kaye is survived by her husband, John Robert Aubrey (Blackfoot), her three children Rob (Laurie) Aubrey (Blackfoot), Garren (Deb) Aubrey (Pocatello), Shelley (Bill) Kinghorn (Pocatello), two sisters Sharlene (Hugh) Sandow (Blackfoot) and Ruth Johnson (Blackfoot), seventeen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Whitney and Donna Johnson, and her son, Steve Aubrey.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 on Saturday, July 27, 2013, at the Groveland 2nd Ward (155 North 380 West, Blackfoot) with Bishop Brent Higginson officiating. The family will visit with friends on Friday from 6:30-8 p.m. and Saturday from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the services, both at the church.
Burial will be in the Groveland Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home (273 N. Ridge).
