In 1898, Bertram Barrett, aged 13, lost his arm in a hunting accident.

Because the law at the time required that severed limbs be given a proper burial, Barrett did in the Hacienda Cemetery.

Besides being the namesake of the road and a son of a quicksilver miner, he became the Chief of Sanitation for the Santa Clara County Health Department.

His arm is still here, it even has a headstone, but Barrett is buried at Oak Hill Funeral Home and Memorial Park in San Jose where he was interred in 1959.
