Corn Chopper Mishap Brings Fatal Injuries
  Injuries suffered Monday in a corn chopper accident proved fatal Saturday for William Kirby Allen, 73, 1375 W. 400 N., Orem.
  Mr. Allen was harvesting corn at the farm of his son-in-law, Ted Halladay, 3350 West Center, Provo, when he caught his right arm in the chopper, losing the arm just below the shoulder. The accident also injured his back and he suffered paralysis from the shoulders down. He was rushed to the Utah Valley Hospital, where he died Saturday shortly before noon, after pneumonia had set in with attendant complications.
  Mr. Allen was born Aug. 25, 1889, in Provo, a son of John Kirby and Lydia Taylor Allen. He married Rhoda Harding Aug. 19, 1914, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
  Mr. Allen was a life-long resident of Provo and Vineyard. He had worked for Geneva Steel Company but was retired.
  An active member of the LDS Church, Mr. Allen filled a mission to Hawaii from 1909 to 1912, had served 50 years as ward chorister, had been superintendent of the Vineyard Ward Sunday School, secretary of both ward and stake High Priest Quorums, and Sunday School teacher. He was serving as a stake missionary at the time of his death.
  Mr. Allen's hobby was music and he was a member of the Allen Brothers Quartet.
  Survivors include his widow of Orem; four sons and six daughters, Kenneth H. Allen, Vaughn, Mont.; Mrs. I. N. (Neola) Hallows, Corning, Calif.; Jesse K. Allen, York, Pa.; Eva Halladay, Provo; Mrs. Ray (Mary) Downs, Mrs. Dwayne (LaRae) Lowry, and Ronald J. Allen, all of Orem; Shirley H. Allen, Miami Beach, Fla.; Mrs. Glen (June) Nelson, Ephraim; Mrs. Keith (Carol) Cedarstrom, Lehi; 28 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; five brothers and three sisters, Thomas Allen, Chico, Calif.; Roy Allen, Los Gatos, Calif.; Taylor Allen, Vineyard; Leo Allen, Provo; Elwood Allen, Pleasant Grove; Mrs. Sam (Lydia) Hilton, Ogden; Mrs. Edna Robinson, Pleasant Grove; and Mrs. C. A. (Priscilla) Jensen, Provo.
  Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 12 noon in the Vineyard LDS Ward Chapel with Bishop George W. Jenkins officiating. Friends may call at the Berg Mortuary of Orem Monday evening from 6 to 8 and at the chapel in Vineyard prior to services. Interment will be in the Timpanogos Memorial Gardens.
