Daniel Free Allred Date: December 29, 1999 Daniel Free Allred, age 92, dear husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away on Dec. 27, 1999 from burn injuries suffered in fighting a fire to save his home. He was born in Wallsburg, Wasatch County, Utah on Dec. 26, 1907, the sixth of nine children of Franklin MacKenzie Allred and Polly Adora Bigelow Allred. He married Lois Isabella Martin Allred of Provo, UT in Stockton, California on Sept. 4, 1936; his bride of 63 years. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on Nov. 4, 1942. He was active in the LDS church and the Sons of Utah Pioneers. He and his brothers founded Allred's Incorporated, a wholesale distributor in the building industry, in 1949 in Salt Lake City. He retired in 1974 at the age of 67. An avid and tireless outdoorsman, he taught his children and grandchildren the adventure that lay in the West's wilderness. He lived a rich and active life to the end, taking his last hike in October in the Wasatch Mountains he loved. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Survived by his wife; two daughters, Shirley Allred Essen and husband Gene, and Pauline Allred Howard and husband Robert; one son, Daniel Martin Allred and wife Suzanne; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, and by his loving brother George Burton Allred and wife Thelma. His family wishes to express its deep appreciation to Dr. Morris and his staff at the Intensive Care Burn Unit of the University of Utah Hospital who made a valiant attempt to save him from his injuries. Brief funeral service will be held at noon on December 30th at the Holladay First Ward, 4568 Holladay Blvd. Interment will be at the Holladay Memorial Cemetery, 4900 Memory Lane (1990 E.) Funeral directors, Holladay Memorial Mortuary. Donations to go to the University of Utah Burn Center.
