Dr. Jerald Raymond Barnard, 56, of Iowa City, Iowa, died on Monday, January 8, 1990, after a long illness.
He was born on July 4,1933, in Deweyville, Utah, a son of Horace R and Stella Spackman Barnard.
He married Karen Craghead on June 15, 1960, in Brigham City, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple.
He was a member of the LDS Church and was a High Priest.
He received his bachelor's and master's degrees from the Utah State University and a PHD from Iowa State University. He worked as a Graduate Assistant at USU from 1960 - 1961 and as a Research Associate at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa from 1961 - 1965.
He had been a Professor of Economics at the University of Iowa from 1965 until the time of his death.
He was a member of the Governor's Economic Advisory Panel for the state of Iowa from 1975-1982 and was Chairman of the Economics Forecasting Council from 1985 until the time of his death. He had been a Visiting Professor for Andes, Merida and Venezuela in 1985 and was a Resident Fellow for Resources for Future in Washington D C.
He had authored "Design and Use of Social Accounts," had been a member of the Regional Science Association for which he served as President in 1981. He also was a member if the Missouri Valley Economics Association , served as President in 1979, and received the Meritorious Service Award in 1985.
Surviving are his wife, Iowa City, Iowa; two sons and one daughter: Allison Barnard, Washington D C, born on January 21,1964; Jerald Scott Barnard, Iowa City, Iowa, born on November 24,1965; and Zarin Noel Barnard Mann, Bear River, Utah, born on November 21,1967.
He was preceded in death by one sister.
Burial was held in the Deweyville Cemetery, Deweyville, Utah.
