Bertha was born in Louisville, KY to Napoleon and Augusta Thorpe Thompson. She was married to Joe Louis Barnes and was the mother of three-Edward Lee and Catherine, both who died in infancy, and Scrapy Louis who was born in 1951. She was a member of the Bicknell Avenue Baptist Church in Lousiville.In 1976 she moved to Pikeville, KY, and lived there until her death. She is sadly missed by her family and friends.
