Stephen Beatty served in Company A. 814th U.S. Pioneer Infantry in World War One.

He enlisted on Aug 23, 1918 and he went to Camp Zachary Taylor, KY for training. His regiment sailed for France in Oct 1918. They returned home in Dec 1918 to Camp Zachary Taylor where he was Honorably Discharged on Feb 22, 1919.

In the 1900 census of Clintonville, KY Stephen is listed as 12 years old, born in KY in Jan 1888, residing with his parents Harry and Betty Beatty both age 49 and their other children: Bona 24, Phoebe 19, Dan 14, Allen 10, and Laura 8.

In the 1910 census of Clintonville, Stephen is listed as 23, a farm laborer residing with his wife Maggie age 20.

When he died on Dec 29, 1959 in Paris, KY, his death certificate gave his name as Steve Stephen Beatty and stated he was 71, born in KY, the son of Harry and Viney Beatty.

On Jan 20, 1960 Betty Beatty of Rt. #5, Paris, KY applied for a government headstone for his grave and one was shipped to Cedar Heights Cemetery, Paris, KY to mark his grave as a veteran of World War One.

Note: The 1900 census gave his birthday as Jan 1888 but his draft registration sates May 30, 1889.
