Carmen A. Alvarez, of Othello, passed away and went to Heaven Dec. 3, 2013, in Kennewick, at the age of 66.
She was born to the late Jesus and Gertrude Acuña in Phoenix, Ariz., March 11, 1947, the second child in her family of nine children. She came to Moses Lake in 1967 at the age of 20 to attend the Columbia Basin Job Corps. It was in Moses Lake that she met the love of her life Henry Alvarez.
They were married Feb. 28, 1970. Soon after, five children began to fill their home and life - Carmen Sabrina, John Henry, Mary Louise, Natividad and Octaviano.
Carmen began working for Franklin Potato, now Simplot, in 1971 and worked there for more than 42 years. She was an amazing woman; she was generous, beautiful, loving, caring, joyful, dedicated, sweet, kind-hearted, smiley, always happy, humorous and optimistic - as described by her loving children and beloved grandchildren.
Carmen was a very hard worker - inside and outside of her home. She was always taking care of her children and grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. She never complained about anything - she was always happy - she loved and cared for her family deeply and would do anything for them.
She is survived by her husband Henry Alvarez, of Othello; her children Sabrina (Charlie) Tompkins, of Kennewick, John (Lisa) Alvarez, of Othello, Mary Alvarez, of Spokane, and Natividad (Stephanie) Alvarez, of Moses Lake; three sisters Anita (Max), of Maricopa, Ariz., Irene Amaya, of Phoenix, and Josie (Manuel), of Chula Vista, Calif.; two brothers John Acuña, of Chula Vista, and Lupe Acuña, of Phoenix; 18 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and many, many dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents Jesus and Gertrude Acuña, mother-in-law and father-in-law Natividad and Maria Alvarez, son Octaviano Alvarez in 1975 and two brothers Robert and Jesus Acuña.
She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends, but she will never be forgotten.Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Saturday, Dec. 7, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Othello. Burial immediately followed in Bess Hampton Memorial Gardens, Othello.
