Alfred Edward Beam, 84, of Adelphi, MD, died Thursday, February 28, 2013.

A native of Ellenboro, NC, he was son of the late James and Nannie Jane Parks Beam and widower of Jane (Parker) Beam.

Retired from the U.S. Weather Service, he served with the Merchant Marines at the end of World War II, the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, and was a graduate of Wofford College.

He is survived by a son, Norman Beam (Bobbie) of Virginia; two daughters, Arlene Beam of Virginia and Marie Kovacic (Eric) of Maryland; a brother, Mike Beam of Ellenboro, NC; a sister, Priscilla Prescott of Forest City, NC; three grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

He was predeceased by a brother, Douglas Gibbs Beam (22 Feb 1926 - 14 Jun 2006).

Graveside services were held at 2:00 pm Thursday, March 7, 2013, at Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family received friends following the service at the cemetery.
