Summerton Councilman Dies Suddenly After Heart Attack; Rites Today
Roy H Bateman, 50, prominent citizen and business man of Summerton, died suddenly following a heart attack at his home early this afternoon.
He was a deacon of the Summerton Baptist church, a member of the town council and actively engaged in all community affairs. He was amember of the Summerton Rotary club.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs Willene Mathis Bateman; two daughters, Mrs T H Pelser, and Miss Nancy Lynn Bateman of Summerton; three brothers, Lee R Bateman and Thomas W Bateman of Sumter and L A Bateman of Florence; and four sisters, Mrs R D Lowder and Mrs W D Ard of Sumter, Miss Iola Bateman of Florence, and Mrs Ollie Rodgers of Charleston.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 Sunday afternoon from the Summerton Baptist church with his pastor, the REv E E Hite, Jr, officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen cemetery.
