FRED C. AMMAN DIES SUDDENLY DURING NIGHT
Well-Known Druggist of City Passes; Burial Tomorrow
Monroe business, church and social circles were shocked greatly this morning by the death, soon about 4 am this morning, of Fred C. Amman, 523 Jackson Street, Monroe, president of the firm of Chase-Amman Company, Ltd., druggist. Mr. Amman had been in apparent good health up to 5 pm yesterday evening, when he complained of illness. His condition became worse and at 9 o'clock last night he was compelled to relinquish is duties at the drug store and go to his home at 523 Jackson Street. A physician was hastily summoned an ordered removal to a local hospital for the performance of an operation. The operation was performed near the midnight hour. Death, however, resulted, as stated at 4 o'clock this morning. An autopsy was performed and disclosed that a perforated gastric ulcer caused the illness. The death of Mr. Amman removes from Monroe one of the most prominent young businessman of the city who was most active in business and church circles.

Mr. Amman was born in Monroe on March 10, 1887. He attended St. Matthew's School, going from there to Jefferson College in Convent, Louisiana, where he received his high learning. Following completion of his studies at Convent, he too courses as a pharmacist at a Baltimore, Maryland college. Returning to Monroe, he actively engaged as a pharmacist and became associated as a pharmacist in the firm of Chas. During World War I, the firm became Chase-Amman Company, Ltd. At the time of his death, Mr. Amman was president of the firm. Mr. Amman was a loyal member of the local Knights of Columbus and at one time served as secretary-treasurer of that organization.
