A Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. John Abrusley, Sr. will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 8, 2014 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oakdale with Father Jose Vattakunnel officiating. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery under the direction of Rush Funeral Home, Oakdale.
Mr. Abrusley, 85, of Oakdale, entered eternal rest on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 in Oakdale Community Hospital.
John was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus and a charter member of the Oakdale Lions Club. He was the longtime owner of Abrusley's Department Store and an avid golfer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Abrusley, Sr. and Sadia Abrusley; one grandson, Robert David Abrusley Jr. and four brothers, Edward, Bill, Leon and Jim Abrusley.
Those left to mourn his loss and cherish his memory include his loving wife of sixty-five years, Nelva (Hamilton) Abrusley of Oakdale; two sons, John Abrusley, Jr. and his wife, Lavanda of Fulshear, Texas and Robert David "Bobby" Abrusley and his wife, Nancy (Karam) Abrusley of Oakdale; one daughter, Susan (Abrusley) Richeson & her husband, Mark of Mansfield, Texas; one brother, Joe Abrusley, Jr. of Oakdale; seven grandchildren, Chris Abrusley, Robbie Abrusley, Stephanie Abrusley Blyth, Luke Abrusley, Leah Abrusley Rustom, Sydney Richeson and Jake Richeson; nine great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild..
Friends may call at Rush Funeral Home, Oakdale on Friday, March 7, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Saturday, March 8, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. until departure for services at 2:00 p.m.
A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home on Friday. Pallbearers honored to serve are Chris Abrusley, Robbie Abrusley, Luke Abrusley, Joseph Abrusley, Jake Richeson, Mark Richeson and Jim Hargrove.
