Bernice Fair "Mama Bernice" Givens
" and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes, and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain, for the former things are passed away." Revelation 21:4. A native of Brusly, she passed away on Sunday, May 27, 2007, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center. She was 75. Visitation at Grant's Westside Funeral Services, 1151 Louisiana Ave., Port Allen, on Friday, June 1, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Religious service at the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, Brusly, on Saturday, June 2, at 11 a.m., conducted by Michael A. Otkins Sr., pastor. Burial will follow in the Antioch Cemetery. Bernice leaves to cherish her memory: two sons, Cleveland F. Thomas and wife Gloria of Baton Rouge, and Jerome T. Fair of Brusly; three sisters, Mildred Wycoff and husband Eddie of Beaumont, Texas, Lillian Hebert of Marin City, Calif., and Doretha Crockett of Brusly; brother, Davis Fair Jr. of Lukeville; uncle, Herman Bynum and wife Pearl of Brusly; two brothers-in-law, Willie Brown and Willie F. Givens, both of Port Allen; and son-in-law, Curtis Brown of Baton Rouge. She was a great "MawMaw." She is also survived by her nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members. She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie Givens; mother, Leona B. Fair; father, David Fair; daughter, Cynthia Brown; grandchild, H.S. Thomas; daughter-in-law, Linda Thomas; sister, Bernadine Brown; godchild, Shelly Brown; and niece, Lisa Jackson. She was a faithful member of the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church and a member of the Senior Saints Ministry. Special thanks to the staff of Baton Rouge General Medical Center for a job well done.
