Loyd E. Acker, age 88 of Garland, TX, passed away April 22, 2017. He was born December 23, 1928, in Royse City, TX, to Lloyd Edwin Sr. and Cleo Catherine (Douglas) Acker. Loyd graduated from Royse City High School in 1946, attained a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Texas Tech, and a Masters in Structural Engineering from SMU where his mentor was Professor Sophus Thompson. He designed many retaining walls and bridges in downtown Dallas, retiring in 1982 from the Texas Highway Department as civil engineer. After retirement Loyd continued as a consultant. He was very outgoing and enjoyed interacting with others. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Rowlett and in his free time loved to play tennis. Loyd married Mary Anna Cade January 18, 1947, in Dallas and they shared 70 wonderful years.

Loyd is survived by his wife: Mary Anna Acker of Garland, TX; sons: Pat Acker and wife June of Rockwall, TX, and Bill Acker and wife Patricia of Yap in the Federated States of Micronesia; grandchildren: Jessica Numie Acker and husband Francis Gilmoon, Nathan Acker and wife Lolo, Valerie Sullivan and husband Eric, Oliver Acker and wife Patty, Sean Acker and wife Jordan, Kathryn Vaughn and husband Ben; great-grandchildren: Bubu Gilmoon, Moses Sullivan, Riley Markham, Thaddeus Sullivan, and Orion Acker.

A graveside service will be held 11:00am Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at Rockwall Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Dretha Burris and Rev. Buist Wilson officiating. As an alternative to flowers, memorials may be made to the Methodist Children’s Home www.mch.org.
