Birth: Apr. 26, 1750
Bedford
Bedford Borough
Bedfordshire, England
Death: Nov. 11, 1829
London
City of London
Greater London, England

Unitarian theologian. His beliefs became more critical of the early Unitarian Bible-fundamentalism throughout his ministry. He famously described the Virgin Birth as being, "no more entitled to credit, than the fables of the Koran, or the reveries of Swedenborg." His "Life of Theophilus Lindsey", published in 1812, included a chapter on American Unitarianism that was ultimately responsible for a permanent split between Congregationalist churches in New England. He succeeded Lindsey at Essex Street chapel in 1805, and remained there until his death.

Inscription:
[on the upper slab] ossibus ossa neis et nomen nomine tangam
(My bones and their bones, and my name and theirs will touch.)
The Latin tag refers to the Rev. Belsham's association with Joseph Priestley and Theophilus Lindsey in life, and to his burial in the same tomb as the latter.
