Rupayne Turner Akin, 105, of Paducah, died Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at 11:45am at Superior Care Home.

Rupayne was born in Clovis, NM on September 14, 1909 to the late Charles and Myrtle Jones Turner. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Murray State University in 1938 and enjoyed a 43-year tenure as a teacher in Sedalia, Cuba, Wingo, Marion, IL, and retired from Metropolis School System. She was a long-time member of Broadway United Methodist Church and was a former member of Western Baptist Hospital Auxiliary.

She is survived by her son, Dannie H. Akin and wife Dean of Paducah; two granddaughters, Leigh Ann Monroe and husband Eric of Columbia, SC and Beth Akin of Paducah; four great-grandchildren, Erica Leigh Monroe and Ryan Dean Monroe both of Columbia, SC and William Payne Sykes and Clay Michael Sykes both of Paducah; and several nieces and nephews.

Rupayne was preceded in death by her husband, Bennie H. Akin, son, Bruce T. Akin, one sister; four brothers; and her parents.

Funeral services will be held at 1pm Saturday at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with Rev. Joe Beal officiating. Burial will follow at Wingo Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 11am Saturday at the funeral home.
