|Birth: ||Mar., 1828|
On the 1880 Census, Rufus and his family are living in Looxahoma, Tate Co, MS, the general area of the Garrott family cemetery.
On the 1900 Census, Rufus and family are living in Poagville, Tate Co, MS. This is an area a few miles north of the Garrott family cemetery.
On the 1910 Census, his wife, Sara Elizabeth (Betty) is living in Looxahoma, Tate Co, MS with a neice. Obviously Rufus died between 1900 and 1910.
There is clear evidence of numerous unmarked graves in this abandoned family cemetery, which is known as Garrott-Wright Cemetery locally. The cemetery was named after Rufus' father, James Garrott and James Son-im-law William B. Wright. Both men owned numerous farms at and around this cemetery.
It appears almost certain that Rufus was buried in a now unmarked grave in this cemetery established for, and dedicated to, the Garrott family. Prior to his death, two of his sisters, Samantha Scott and Elizabeth Johnson, were buried in this cemetery and currently have tombstones there.
