THE PARIS NEWS, Sun., Jun. 1, 1997, p.4B: ‘Genevieve Creed Alley, 80, died Thursday, May 29, 1997, after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s. She was born in Lamar County July 28, 1916, a twin and one of seven children of Auswell A. Creed and Viola Ingram Creed. She received her associates degree from Paris Junior College in 1937 and was a state tennis champion at East Texas State University where she received a bachelors degree in 1947. She taught for 32 years in Falfurrias, Beeville and Corpus Christi schools. She married J. Portwood Alley in 1930. He died in 1992. Survivors include her son, Joseph P. Alley II of Corpus Christi; three grandchildren, Amy Alley Roberts of Austin, Brooke Alley and Joshua Alley, both of Corpus Christi; a sister, Katherine Fenner of Edna; a brother, Ingram Creed of Roxton; two nieces, Vivian Creed Dishman of Paris and Evelyn Craig Lancaster of the Woodlands; and a nephew, Auswell Creed of Paris. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, June 2, at First Baptist Church in Corpus Christi. Graveside services will be held at Restland Cemetery in Roxton at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 3.’
