QUINTON JOHNSON ANGLIN, 92, beloved father of Kathy Putt and Gail Wilkes, was called home to be with Jesus December 2, 2013 in Memphis, TN. Quinton was born in Reid, Mississippi on March 21, 1921. Spending his early years on the farm, he enlisted in the Army in 1943 during World War II, where he served in the Philippines in the 793AAA Battalion, one of 38 M115 8: Howitzer Battalions. Sergeant Anglin almost died while being transferred on the John A. Johnson when the ship was struck by a Japanese Torpedo and sunk. Surviving several return attacks while in life boats by the same Japanese submarine, Quinton was one of 60 surviving members who were rescued by the USS Argus (PY-14). After the war, he went to work for the Memphis and Shelby County Health Department, where he served for 33 years and retired as the Director of Insect Control. During this time, he loved and cared for his wife, two daughters, a grandson and granddaughter. In 1979, Quinton retired so he could care for his aging mother and father in Bruce, Mississippi. Quinton is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Michael Putt, and his daughter, Gail Wilkes, both of Memphis, TN; two grand-children, Michael Putt, Jr. and Jennifer Key, and three great-grandchildren, Michael Blake Putt, Noah Aron Key, and Abel Joshua Key. He will be loved and missed by all who knew him. Service will be 12 p.m., Thursday, December 5 at Parker Memorial Funeral Home. Burial in Poplar Springs Cemetery, Vardaman, MS.
