George was a former member of the Moose, a member of the 1st congregational Church in Greenville, the North American Hunting Club was an ordained minister and had been employed by Minnema Brothers Masonry for 25 years.
He is survived by his wife Debbie; children Christopher Worthing of Belding, Jessica & (Charley) Larsen of Phoenix, Arizona, Jeremy Akens of Crystal and Jacklyn Akens of Stanton; mother Toni & (Larry) Hilton of Greenville; grandchildren Selena, Camren, Marco, Azalia, Madyson, Charlie, Miana, Zane and Connor; brother Gregory Akens of St. Thomas US Virgin Islands; sister Gwen Johnson of Greenville; father in law Harold Minnema of Grand Rapids; cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father George A. Akens and his grandparents.
Funeral Services were Friday, October 14, 2011 at the Marshall Funeral Home, Greenville, with Pastor Jerry Jones officiating.
