Mr. Olen Purvis Baker, age 87, died Sunday, Aug. 29 at Eupora Health Care.


Service was at Bradford Chapel Baptist Church on Tuesday beginning at 2 p.m. Officiating were Rev. Willie Weddle and Rev. Joey Hamilton. Burial was at Bradford Chapel Cemetery at Gore Springs.


He was preceded in death by a grandson, a granddaughter, four brothers and a sister.


Mr. Baker was born at Calhoun City on April 14, 1912. He was a retired farmer and ginner. He was also a member and deacon of Bradford Chapel Baptist Church. Mr. Baker was a Royal Arch mason, a fox hunter, and a St. Louis Cardinals fan.


Survivors include his wife, Mattie Ellen Pendergrast Baker of Calhoun City; one daughter, Janie Apraberry and husband, Howard of Gore Springs; five sons, John William Baker and wife, Barbara of Jackson, Olen Purvis Baker, Jr. and wife, Peggy of Vardaman, Wayne Lamar Baker and wife, Sally of Clinton, Kenneth Rudon Baker and wife, Lora of Greenville, Edward Aubrey Baker and wife, Debbie of Eupora; ten grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.


Pallbearers were his five sons and son-in-law. Honorary pallbearers were his grandsons.
