Leonard Wayne Allen, 58, of Buena Vista died April 19, 1997 in Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs.

Leonard was born August 16, 1938 in Arp, Texas to J.W. and Zelma Allen. Leonard spent his childhood in Arkansas, California and New Mexico. After graduating his work led him to Kansas where he met his lifetime partner Ginger.

He was proficient in many trades and loved to work with his hands. In 1968 the family moved to Buena Vista, where he worked for Homestake, the Correctional Facility and owned Vista TV and Furniture among other things. He was active in the Lions Club, Eastern Star, the Volunteer Fire Department and the Masonic Lodge. After retiring in the fall of 1996, Leonard and Ginger lived part-time in Cripple Creek until his death. He was dearly loved and will be sorely missed. He is survived by his wife Ginger R. Allen, Buena Vista, Colorado, daughter Michelle L. Allen, Buena Vista, Colorado, mother Zelma R. Allen, Dewitt, Arkansas, Mother and Father-in-law Chuck and Dorothy Lee, Buena Vista, Colorado, granddaughter Marka M. Allen/Bolin and many relatives. He was preceded in death by son Mark W. Allen and father J.W. Allen. Funeral will be Friday, 11 a.m. at Congregational United Church of Christ, with interment at Mount Olivet Cemetery. Arrangements are by Runyan Mortuary. Leonard is living with his family in DeWitt, Chester, Arkansas in the 1940 census and lists him as being born in Arkansas, but there is a Texas birth certificate stating born in Smith County, Texas. His father was a farmer and listed having an 8th grade education and his mother 3 years of high school.
