Kenneth M. "Donk" Adkins, 82, of Martinsville passed from this life on Friday, December 11, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at The Waters of Martinsville.
He was born on December 6, 1927 in Martinsville to the late William Spencer Adkins and Carolyn M. (Ison) Ploughe.
He was a lifelong resident of Martinsville and a graduate of Martinsville High School with the class of 1945. His memberships included the Martinsville Elks Lodge #1349, lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post #1257, lifetime member and past commander of the American Legion Post #230 and a member of the 40/8.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1945 and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Air Force in 1947.
Donk worked for many years at the Martinsville Brick Company before taking a position at the American Legion as club manager and bartender where he remained until his retirement in the early 1990's.
His survivors include his wife, Mary Ellen Adkins; two sons, Terry Adkins of Linton, Indiana and Tony Adkins of California; three grandchildren, Scott Adkins, Jennifer Colton and Courtney Adkins and 4 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond C. and Billy R. Adkins and one sister, Joan Feely
Family and friends are invited to visit on Monday, December 14, 2009 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at Neal & Summers Funeral and Cremation Center. Mr. Phil Deckard will conduct a Celebration of Life Service at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in New South Park Cemetery.
