Douglas "Doug" Adams, 69, of Batesville, AR., died Monday, Jan. 2, 2012, in a Little Rock hospital.

Born April 24, 1942, at Cushman, he was the son of Bennie and Audley Claxton Adams.

He was an educator, served in the House of Representatives for three terms and was a banker. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and especially enjoyed his grandchildren. He was a Master Mason of Smithville Lodge No. 29 and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Barbara Adams; three sons, Doug Adams and Wendel Adams, both of Batesville, and Ryan Adams of Russell; a brother, Bennie Adams Jr. of Heber Springs; 11 grandchildren, Blake Adams, Annie Winn, Bobbye Sue Adams, Maggye Adams and Blakelye Adams, all of Batesville, Emily Barbosa of Texas, Haley Bell and Whitney Bell, both of Strawberry, and R.J. Adams, Savannah Adams and Sierra Adams, all of Russell; and several nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Wendel Adams, Wilbur Adams and an infant, Donald Adams.

Services were at Qualls Batesville Funeral Home with burial in Oaklawn Cemetery in Batesville.
