The 1920 US Census lists Lewis as the son of Brack (Braxton Riley)(b. abt 1894, Missouri) and Pearl (Pearl M. Smith)(b. abt 1897, Arkansas) Browning.
This census has the spelling of Lewis' sisters as Ura, 4 yes old and Arvie, 10 mo old. (see below)

In the 1930 US Census Lewis was living with his uncle and aunt, Samuel H. and Dora A. Haggard, in Roaring River, Barry County, MO. Dora's maiden name is Smith, the same as Lewis' mom, whether Dora is Pearl's older sister or her own aunt isn't known.
The other children were living in the household, Eura J. Browning and Arvy I. Browning. These children are listed as nieces and are the sisters of Lewis. (see below)

Eura and Arvy are both listed as being born in Arkansas and Lewis in Missouri. (see below)

Also living in the household was, Roy C. Haggard, a 21 year old son of Samuel and Dora. (see below)

The census lists his mother as being born in Missouri and his father as being born in the United States. (see below)

Lewis' mother died in May 1923. His dad drowned in the Illinois River in 1934, while trying to save a woman's life.

Lewis served in the military during WWII and after his discharge was on his way home when he was killed in a car wreck.

At the time of Lewis' death both his parents were already dead, this explains the word 'brother' on the stone. Both his sisters were older than he and probably loved their baby brother very much.
