William Baker was the son of Archibald Baker and Mary Jane Norris. He married Martha Wescott on June 16, 1892 in Hale, Carroll, Missouri.

"Funeral services for William Baker, 87, were held this afternoon from the Austin Funeral Home of Hale. Burial was in the Hale Cemetery. Mr. Baker died Wednesday at the Chillicothe Hospital, where he had been a patient since Sunday.

Mr. Baker was born February 10, 1867, at Hale and spent his entire life in the community, according to the Carrollton Democrat. He operated a feed mill and coal business from 1903 to 1934. He also had farming interests in the Hale community. In 1901, he spent several months in the Klondike region of Alaska.

He is survived by his wife, the former Martha Wescott; three children, Mrs. Emma Peckham of Athens, O., Arch C. Baker of Jackson, Mich., and Miss Alice M. Baker of Akron, O.; a sister, Mrs. Martha Jones of Chillicothe; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Baker was widely known in former years as a member and officer of the Masonic lodge." The Chillicothe Constitution-Tribune, October 29, 1954
