PASSED BEYOND SATURDAY NIGHT
Carl August Abraham a Pioneer Settler Dies at his Home in Janesvile Township on Saturday Afternoon FUNERAL SERVICES ON TUESDAY
Carl August Abraham passed away at his home in Janesville Township several miles north of this place at four o'clock on April 25th.
His age was seventy four years, four months and seven days.
He had been in uniformly good health up to about three weeks ago when on Easter Sunday evening at the home of his son-in-law, Mr. Gust Knopf, he was suddenly stricken with paralysis. He was taken to his home where he lingered until the end came on the twenty-fifth as noted. He died surrounded by his family, resigned and contented, a perfect example of the just man he was.
Mr. Abraham was born in Begerngesbezerk, Bromberg, Kreis Obermick in Posen, Germany. He came to this country in 1863 and settled in Janesville. Four years later in 1867 he settled on a farm in Le Ray Township. Here the following year he was married to Miss Pauline Schutz. In 1873 he purchased the farm in Janesville Township which has since been his home.
The deceased was the father of twelve children, nine of whom survive him. They are Mrs. Gus Knopf who resides a mile and a half from Janesville west of the lake and August, Jr., of this place, Mrs. Wm. Warner, of New Ulm, Mrs. Wm. Knopf, of Kalispel, Montana, Mrs. J. W. Risch, of Fort George, British Columbia, Adolph, of Rockford, Ill., Albert, of Minor, N. D., and William who resides at home.
The funeral was conducted yesterday afternoon at two o'clock at the Trinity German Lutheran Church in this place, Rev. M. Winter, officiating, and the remains laid to rest in the Janesville Cemetery.
Mr. Abraham was an industrious hardworking man whose life in every respect was an exemplification of right living and good purposes. Hw was a high minded intelligent citizen, a devoted Christian, a man of unflinching integrity who enjoyed the respect and confidence of all his friends and associates and the community generally. A good man is gone.
